ISLINGTON (St. Stephen), a parish, in the parliamentary borough of Finsbury, Finsbury division of the hundred of Ossulstone, county of Middlesex, 1½ mile (N.) from London. Built as a chapel of ease in 1839, and dedicated to St. Mary. There are places of worship for Independents, Wesleyans, Presbyterians, and Baptists, one for a congregation professing the principles of the late Edward Irving, and a spacious Roman Catholic chapel.[1]
St Stephen Islington, also called Portland Place Church, was built as a chapel of ease in the year 1839, within the civil parish boundaries of St Mary Islington. It was later renamed Islington St Stephen in 1849.
