Task List[edit | edit source]

Examples[edit | edit source]

US Society[edit | edit source]

British Isles Society[edit | edit source]

Other Countries Society[edit | edit source]

Instructions[edit | edit source]

Step 1: Review the Page[edit | edit source]

1. To to the Task List and choose a society Wiki page to work on by putting your name beside it.

2. Click on the link to open the society page.

3. Review the society page and see if there is a breadcrumb just below the title of the Article name.

Instructions if NO Breadcrumb is on the Page[edit | edit source]

1. Click on the Edit Source button in the top right corner of the page.

2. Copy the following wikitext depending on where the society resides. If it's in the US, use the one labeled, US Societies. If it's a society in the British Isles (England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland), use the one labeled, British Isles Societies, and use the last one labeled Country Societies for any society in another country:

US Societies

British Isles Societies

COUNTRY Societies

3. At the very top of the Wiki page, paste in this new wikitext pushing down all other code on the page.

4. Fill out the code, replacing all of capital letters in square brackets [[]].

5. You may need to go to the society's website to determine where the society is located (country, state, country, etc.). Wikipedia is also a good reference tool to determine what county a city is in. If it's too hard to tell, just make a note and skip the society.

Things to remember:

 • Adapt the code to the appropriate country and lower jurisdictions.
 • The left side of the link should be the name of the Wiki page the link is going to.
 • The right side of the link is the name of the Wiki page without the word Genealogy.
 • Link 4: this link is optional and does not need to be used if it doesn't fit the location of the society.
 • Link 5: should be the name of the Wiki page and when correctly coded will be bold.
 • If there is a question on what the final breadcrumb should be, leave a note in Column D and it will be reviewed.

6. Once you have all of the links filled out, click on "Show preview" and make sure all the links work. Link 5 should be bold.

7. Make any adjustments as necessary.

8. If it all looks correct, copy and paste the following in the Edit Summary field, then save the page.

4. Once it is complete, remove the old breadcrumb from the Wiki page.

5. Review the adjusted breadcrumb by clicking on "Show preview" and make sure all the links work. Link 5 should be bold.
