The first historical mention of Visone is regarding its castle, on May 4, 991. However, there was a pieve (church with a baptismal font) near the confluence of the Caramagna stream with the Bormida fifty years prior.

Major events:

  • October 1450: The Capitolo della cattedrale of Acqui moved to the church of S. Maria delle Grazie of Visone to escape a severe plague in the city.
  • Night of April 18-19, 1861: A flood and the overflowing of the Bormida River caused a landslide in the Malborghetto area, destroying many houses around the castle and the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, killing fifteen people.
  • June 8, 1929: The municipality of Visone was suppressed and its territory was annexed to Acqui Terme.
  • January 1, 1948: Visone was re-established as a separate municipality. [1]
