County Laois Societies: Difference between revisions

:Offaly History is about collecting and sharing memories.  We do this in an organised way though our Facebook site, Offalyhistory.com, and our library and offices at Bury Quay, Tullamore beside the Dew Visitors Centre.  According to the website [https://www.cyndislist.com/uk/irl/counties-irl/lex/societies/ Cyndi's List] this Society is the family history research centre for the Irish counties of Laois and Offaly.

:Laois Heritage Society was founded in the early 1970s. It replaced the Old Laois Society which had operated from the 1950s. It serves as the umbrella body for heritage interests in County Laois and draws its membership from all parts of the county.  Among the Society’s aims is to create awareness of the rich and unique heritage in the county. Another important part of its work is concerned with conservation and keeping a watching brief on threatened sites and artefacts.

:We provide a forum where those who have an interest in local history can meet and discuss their interest. We hope to preserve and promote the history and heritage of Mountrath. We wish to explore the built, written, oral, and cultural history and heritage around us.
