County Kildare Societies: Difference between revisions

:The society has always been concerned for the preservation of the heritage of the local area. Blessington, historically known as Ballycomeen, is a town on the River Liffey in Wicklow, Ireland, near the border with Kildare.

:Castledermot Historical Society was founded in October 2010 when a group of local history enthusiasts came together with a view to establishing a local history group.

:The Castleisland and District Culture and Heritage Society was established in 2006 with the aim of collecting, preserving, and promoting an interest in the history of Castleisland and its hinterland. The primary objectives of the Society are to investigate and research any matters, books, or other material likely to contain historical information, to collect and preserve material of local interest to its members and the public in general, and to encourage a wider knowledge and appreciation of the history of this area and beyond by staging lectures and field trips for both its members and the public alike.

:Members of the group have been proactive in representing the society in the broader history field, on the Federation of Kildare Federation of Local History Groups, at national level on the Federation of Local History Societies, on National Library of Ireland projects, and on the Oral History Network of Ireland, among others.

:Founded in the late 1990s Clane Local History Group aims to research, record, and conserve the history of Clane and its environs and to promote the heritage, culture, and social history of the area and its community.

:The aims of the society are to collect and to preserve the records and traditions of these memorials of the past, and to present them to all who love archaeology, in a Journal which it is hoped may yet prove a rich storehouse, whence some learned historian may draw his materials for that great desideratum – a complete history of the County Kildare – such is the object – the ambition of the County Kildare Archaeological Society.

:The Curragh Local History Group was founded in 1993 and has a number of notable achievements to its credit. In 1995 they were involved in the restoration of the Clock Tower; they organized the Curragh Speed Festival in 1999 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the famous International Wakefield car races held in the Curragh between 1949 and 1954 and to further mark the occasion they unveiled a monument which names the winners of each event and also a tribute to the three men who sadly lost their lives during the last race to be held at the Curragh in 1954.

:Donadea History group was founded in 1991. In the early years we held regular meetings and on occasions invited guest speakers. Due to a lack of a suitable premises we are unable to continue this practise. The aim of the group was the preservation of antiquities in the area, recording the past, transcribing headstones in disused burial grounds, etc.

:Kilcullen Heritage Group was formed in March 1998 with the aim of promoting and preserving the rich heritage in our community.

:The Kill History Group was set up in 2002 after a meeting called to see if there was interest in setting up a group to research and record local history and lore in the Kill area.

:Monasterevin Historical Society was founded in 2003 and is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history and heritage of Monasterevin. Knowledge of a common history and heritage is essential in fostering a shared sense of identity, community and place.

:Naas Local History Group was founded in 1984 with a mission to record and present the rich and colourful story of our town. We are determined to make its history available and accessible to everybody. For, ultimately, our history is not a dry collection of facts and details but the warm, lively, and essentially human story of the personalities and events from which the fabric of our town is woven.

:Newbridge Local History Group was founded in the 1980s to foster an interest in the history of the town and surrounding areas. The group is interested in preserving the photographic, written, and oral heritage of Newbridge and making these resources easily accessible to all. We are interested in all aspects of the history of our town and its people.

:St Mochua Historical Society was set up in 1993. The Society was set up to work in the North West Kildare area to research and document details of historic sites and buildings within the local region. We record the historical events and happenings of the past for the benefit of future generations.
