County Cork Societies: Difference between revisions

:This Society was founded by a number of local people in Aubane in 1985. It aims to contribute to the growing body of local history publications being produced across the country.  It concentrates on the local Aubane and Millstreet area as well as North Cork generally. It seeks to make available original and first hand accounts of various aspects of our history.

:BHA was set up in 2006, with the aim of raising heritage issues in Ballincollig. Key sites include the 19th century former Gunpowder Mills, the former military barracks, and the 15th century castle.  The BHA promotes the preservation and conservation of these sites as well as other sites and buildings with historical significance within the Ballincollig area, as a means of enhancing the town, both for its inhabitants and for tourism.  BHA has amalgamated with the Muskerry Local History Association.

:Established in 1991, our primary objective is to collect and make available to the public the history and traditions of of our area of West Cork.

:This Society organises lectures on topics of local and national history and site visits (outings) to places of historical interest in the County Cork area.

:The Association's aim is to encourage and promote the local history of the area. The aim of the website is to provide details on upcoming events and contacts for members of the association as well as an overview of the publications of the association.

:The Society, referred to as Bantry Historical Society, was set up by a small group of enthusiastic local people in 1978.  We owe a huge debt of gratitude to these wonderful people for their foresight and commitment to researching local history, folklore and culture of the greater Bantry area and the Society continues to fulfil its initial remit of informing and researching

:The numerous and diverse range of archaeological monuments such as burial tombs, ancient copper mines, and stone circles are our main source of information on the earliest inhabitants in Beara.

:The Bere Island Heritage & Information Centre is the focal point for the conservation and enhancement of the Island’s unique heritage. It is home to The Bere Island Experience Exhibition detailing the unique history and lifestyle of Bere Island, as well as temporary themed exhibitions throughout the year.  

:Blackpool Historical Society is a local history society in the historic suburb of Blackpool, Cork.

:Formed in 1985, the Blarney & District Historical Society is a non-denominational and non-political organization which endeavours to record for posterity matters of local historical interest and also to preserve and protect local heritage.

:The Canovee Historical and Archaeological Society meets on the second Thursday of the month from September to April at Canovee Hall. Generally a guest speaker is invited to give a talk/lecture on local history, folklore or archaeology.  In the summer time members usually have a field outing, sometimes in company with one of the other local societies, and visit one of the many interesting sites of historic importance in the district.

:Cloyne is a historically significant town in East Cork. The Literary & Historical Society has been in existence since 1977, has monthly meetings and lectures from guest speakers during the winter months and excursions to sites of historical interest during the summer.

:The Society was established in 1994 to promote the study of genealogy and related subjects as educational leisure pursuits available to all with Irish ancestry in the community.  The society promotes an interest in genealogy by organizing open meetings, lectures, workshops, and exhibiting at relevant events in the city and county.

:The Cork Historical and Archaeological Society was founded in 1891 at a particularly divisive time in Irish politics. Its members, drawn from diverse traditions, were united in a common interest in the history and prehistory of Cork and the new Society was welcomed as an augury of a more harmonious Ireland.  

:Dúchas Clonakilty Heritage is a community organisation which seeks to foster an interest in local history, archaeology, and heritage in Clonakilty town and its environs through public lectures, field trips, guided walks, and a variety of other mediums. The organisation encourages and facilitates research by its members and the community at large, in order to better understand and preserve our local heritage, and to make it accessible to local and wider audiences for education, inspiration, and enjoyment.

:Dunmanway Historical Association was founded in 2003 with the aim of promoting an interest in the history of Dunmanway and its hinterland. The primary objects of the Association are to investigate and research any matters, books, or other material likely to yield historical information, and to collect and publish material of local interest to its members and the public in general.

:Glanmire Heritage Society was set up in 1984 to promote and preserve the history and heritage of the Riverstown / Glanmire area.

:The Society has been formed to gather and record historical information related to the Parish of Inniscarra, to create and manage media in which the data can be published, all in a manner which will inform and entertain the people of Inniscarra, wherever they may be.

:Kilbrittain Historical Society was formed in 2015 with the aim of organising historical talks and trips for its members.

:The Knockraha History and Heritage Society exists to keep the local people informed of historical matters as well as looking after historical sites in the area.     

:The Mallow Field Club is a non-profit organization promoting the gathering and dissemination of information on the history and archaeology of the area around Mallow in North Cork through field trips, lectures, and the publication of an annual journal.

:Mitchelstown Heritage Society was founded in 1995. It works to promote the local history of our community and protect our wonderful heritage.  The protection, promotion, and future of our heritage, built, natural, folklore, photographs, and all matters historic.

:Muskerry Local History Society is based in Ballincollig-Ovens and surrounding areas. Ballincollig Heritage Association merged with Muskerry Local History Society in 2013.

:The Skibbereen and District Historical Society is based in Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland. The Society was founded in January 2002 with the aim of encouraging interest in the history of West Cork and the Skibbereen area in particular.

:In 1998, a group of Mallow and district residents who were all actively interested in the history and heritage of the area founded the St Anne’s Society. What brought them together was not just their mutual interest in the subject, but a realisation that the results of their freelance efforts should be available to a wide audience, and for others to access easily in future years. The best way to make this information available would be to bring together visual static and interactive displays of historical events to one physical, permanent location. The ideal solution would be to establish a Heritage Centre within or very close to Mallow Town.  Since 1998, membership has grown steadily and has attracted interest from well beyond Ireland. The role currently stands at around sixty members. The group is actively engaged in the measurement and recording of many historical sites. A vast quantity of written information is available on all aspects of the town and its hinterland.

:Togher Historical Association's mission is to research the rich history of the Togher district, by study, interviews, and extensive fieldwork.  

:We meet six times a year (or so) to listen to (and occasionally heckle) the writers of historical research pertaining to the West Cork area. Venues vary.

:The Society was founded in 1988 and has a long standing, interactive association with the local community which has given strong support to its activities over the years. The range of interests of the Society is ever expanding and new members are always welcome.

:We are a voluntary group dedicated to preserving and promoting our unique heritage in this wonderful walled port town. Youghal was an important administrative and commercial centre in the late Medieval period and up to the 19th century.
