Elizabeth Shown Mills pioneered the institution of [[Research Process|Research Methodology]] classes into the curriculums of genealogy courses. Her ''Advanced Research Methodology'' track—launched in 1986 at [https://library.samford.edu/special/treasures/2012/ighr.html Samford's Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research] — became the standard approach used by many genealogical instructors.
