Church records were also added to the system during the Communist era.The system consists of a central national archive in the capital, Bucuresti, and 41 regional archives, one for each of the counties, and one for the municipality of Bucuresti. -A permit is required for onsite searching of the archives, which must be obtained at the archive where you will be doing your research. The permit lasts two years, but only covers the archive where it was issued. If you want to do research at a different archive site in the system, you will need to get a permit at that site also. To obtain the permit, you will fill out an application which will be at the archive. As the permit is a photo identification, you will need to bring a passport or smaller photo with you when you apply for the permit. Permits are generally issued the same or next day.
