The [[National Archives and Records Administration|National Archives]] will release the 1940 census digitally on April 2, 2012. Updates are placed on their [http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/census/1940/ 1940 census page]. Steve Morse also discusses the 1940 census on his [http://stevemorse.org/census/intro.html site]. Another great free resource dedicated exclusively to the 1940 Census can be found at: [http://www.1940census.net 1940census.net].

Only the named persons, their heirs, or their legal representatives can gain access to individual records of censuses not yet released to the public.
