	Waypointing is one of the steps in The Digital Pipeline.  It allows users to browse through images by groups.  This step is before the images have been indexed.  It is, in essence, a digital microfilm reader.  The process of waypointing eliminates the administrative data, such as the title pages and the focus test patterns so that all that remains is the images.  In this process a "header" is created which contains information about the type of record in the collection, the time period that is covered, and may also contain the beginning and ending certificate numbers if they were available.
