Diocese of Ely: Difference between revisions

The diocese was created in 1109 out of part of the [[Diocese of Lincoln]] to cover the historic county of [[Cambridgeshire, England Genealogy|Cambridgeshire]] and the [[Isle of Ely]]. The boundaries have been subsequently altered various times. [[Bedfordshire, England Genealogy|Bedfordshire]] and [[Huntingdonshire, England Genealogy|Huntingdonshire]] were added in 1837 from the [[Diocese of Lincoln]], as was the Sudbury archdeaconry in [[Suffolk Genealogy|Suffolk]], from the [[Diocese of Norwich]]. In 1914 [[Bedfordshire, England Genealogy|Bedfordshire]] became part of the [[Diocese of St Albans]], and western [[Suffolk Genealogy|Suffolk]] became part of the [[Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich]], whilst Ely took the western part of the [[Diocese of Norwich]]. [[Peterborough, Cambridgeshire|Peterborough]] remains the seat of the [[Diocese of Peterborough]].
