The Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana, often shortened to "Little Shell", were located in the Red River-Pembina region during the mid-19th century. After the Treaty of 1892, the Little Shell tribe was left without land. The tribal numbers were in the several thousand, but without a reservation or enrollment, there is no documentation of the exact population. The tribe is of Métis descent.<ref>“Culture,” Montana Little Shell Tribe, accessed August 14, 2020, http://montanalittleshelltribe.org/culture.html.</ref> | |||
