Tennessee Colonial Records: Difference between revisions

The French established a trading post at Fort Prud'homme in 1682. The French built other forts including Fort Assumption where French soldiers were stationed. In 1759, the British built Fort Loudon, however, the people were massacred the following year. The French ceded the land to the British after 1763. The first permanent settlement in Tennessee was in the Watauga Valley by settlers from North Carolina and Virginia.<ref>Christina K.
