-The 7th Kentucky Infantry was organized at Camp Dick Robinson, Kentucky, under Colonel T.T. Garrard, and mustered into the United States service on the 22nd day of September, 1861. As soon as it was organized it was ordered to Wild Cat, Kentucky to repel the invasion of General Zollicoffer, and participated in an engagement with the enemy at that point, which was the first general engagement on Kentucky soil. They received the merited praise of the Division Commander.<ref>Kentucky. The regiment was at Baton Rouge until May 1, 1865, and at Clinton until March, 1866.
