The 45th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry Volunteer Mounted Infantry was at first designed as a battalion for local service on the Virginia front by Major Lewis M. Clark. They participated in the battle of Cynthiann, June 12th 1864, in which Morgan's force was finally destroyed. From constant duty in most inclement weather the Regiment suffered even more seriously than from the bullets of the enemy. This regiment was mustered out by Battalions at Cattlettsburg, Kentucky.
