'''Title:''' FamilySearch Book Scanning
''' | '''Audience Skill Level:''' Beginner through Advanced (all levels)
'''Description:''' | |||
FamilySearch has built a library of over 300,000 genealogy, family history, and local history books online, including public domain and copyrighted works. This collection is available to view for free at books.familysearch.org. If you have ever wanted to know about the FamilySearch Books collection, how to get books scanned by FamilySearch for free, or how to become a book scanning missionary at one of the 14 United States book scanning centers, this is the presentation for you. D. Michael Hansen is the FamilySearch Book Scanning Operations Manager. He recently moved to Utah from Rochester, New York, with a Masters Degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in Print Media, specializing in imaging science and color science. Since 2001, Michael has been involved in digital imaging projects for museums and libraries and has a special interest in multispectral imaging projects where handwriting is faded or illegible. Since 2008, Michael has consulted with libraries and archives on mass digitization projects and is excited about the direction FamilySearch is taking to make its book collection freely available and accessible to the public. He lives in Payson, Utah, with his wife and four children.
