The [[District of Columbia Genealogy|District of Columbia]] was created in 1790 from [[Maryland Genealogy|Maryland]] and [[Virginia Genealogy|Virginia]]. Land records for the District of Columbia, 1792 to 1886, are on 694 microfilms, {{FHL|216566|item}}, starting with film 895251 for the index and film 899401 for the records. The documents include deeds of transfer of title, bills of sale, mortgages, and manumissions. There is a grantor/grantee index for 1792 to 1919.
