The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was a federal program during the Great Depression to employ white-collar workers. In the 1930's the WPA began a project to index the records in county courthouses. WPA workers created indexes to birth, marriage and death records for about 2/3 of the counties in Indiana before the program was stopped in 1939. Most of these WPA indexes used 1920 as their end year, for privacy reasons. | The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was a federal program during the Great Depression to employ white-collar workers.
