This unit was organized at Indianapolis, Indiana, and mustered in September 13, 1861 after the [[7th Regiment, Indiana Infantry (3 months, 1861)|7th Regiment, Indiana Infantry (3 months)]] was mustered out in August. The non-veterans mustered out September 20, 1864.
