	''Amt'' is the German word for district.  The Brumath District was in Alsace in what is now [https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Bas-Rhin Bas-Rhin], France.   Before 1736 this district was in the dynastic state of [https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Hanau-Lichtenberg Hanau-Lichtenberg].  When that line was extinguished in 1736 the district was transferred to [https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Hesse_Darmstadt_%28Landgrave%29 Hesse-Darmstadt]. The rights of all nobility to ''Amt ''Brumath were abolished effective 11 Aug 1789 by France. This was confirmed by the Peace of Lunéville on 9 February 1801.
