E. by N.) from Hatherleigh. It is bounded on the west and south-west by the rivers Torridge and Okement; the banks of the former are richly ornamented with fine oaks, and the surrounding scenery is picturesque. The church is a small ancient edifice, partly in the early and partly in the decorated English style, with a handsome embattled tower, and contains a monumental effigy of a crusader, supposed to represent Sir J. Sully, whose family once possessed the manor. There is a place of worship for '''Bible Christians'''.<ref>Lewis, Samuel A., ''[http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=51059&strquery=Iddesleigh A Topographical Dictionary of England]'' (1848), pp. 600-603.</ref> | ||
