DUNSFORTH, LOWER, a chapelry, in the parish of Aldborough, union of Great Ouseburn (under Gilbert's act), Upper division of the wapentake of Claro, W. riding of York, 2¾ miles (S. E.) from Boroughbridge; containing 116 inhabitants. It comprises by computation 960 acres of land, partly the property of the Dean and Chapter of York: the village is seated on the south bank of the river Ure, and east of the road from Boroughbridge to York. The living is a perpetual curacy, with a net income of £51, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Aldborough; impropriators of the chapelry, the Dean and Chapter.
