History[edit | edit source]

  • 1662: Skanderborg County was formed and initially had the same boundaries as the preceding Skanderborg Province (len). Specifically, it contained the following districts (herreder): Framlev, Hjelmslev, Sabro, Tyrsting, and Voer.
  • 1794: The counties were reorganized. Skanderborg's counties remained the same except Gjern district was added.
  • 2 July 1794: The cities within Skanderborg's boundaries are incorporated into the County. Before this time they were technically the king's domain and separate from the counties.
  • 14 June 1799: Nim district was transferred to Vejle County to Skanderborg County and Skanderborg was merged into and became part of Århus County.
  • 16 January 1822: Vrads distict was transferred from Rinkøbing County to Skanderborg (Århus) County.
  • 1 July 1824: Skanderborg broke off from Århus and became an independent county again. However, Framlev and Sabro districts stayed with Århus County.
  • 1970: The counties were reorganized. Skanderborg ceased to exist at this time and was divided between Vejle and Århus Counties.
