Guide to Sanzeno municipality, Italy ancestry, family history, and genealogy: birth records, marriage records, death records, census records, and military records.
History[edit | edit source]
Sanzeno has "very ancient origins," predating the Roman era, as evidenced by Rhaetian archaeological finds. The village of Metho/Mecla existed during Roman times. A specific founding date is not available, but its existence is confirmed by the Roman period.
Major events:
- Pre-Roman Era: Rhaetian inhabitation (archaeological evidence).
- Roman Era: Existence of the village of Metho/Mecla.
- 397 AD: Martyrdom of Saints Sisinius, Martyrius, and Alexander. This is the most significant event highlighted in the text.
- Post-397 AD: Construction of the basilica dedicated to the martyred saints. The village name changed to San Sisinnio, eventually evolving to Sanzeno.
- 1968: Aggregation of the municipalities of Banco and Casez into Sanzeno.[1]
