History[edit | edit source]

Sanzeno has "very ancient origins," predating the Roman era, as evidenced by Rhaetian archaeological finds. The village of Metho/Mecla existed during Roman times. A specific founding date is not available, but its existence is confirmed by the Roman period.

Major events:

  • Pre-Roman Era: Rhaetian inhabitation (archaeological evidence).
  • Roman Era: Existence of the village of Metho/Mecla.
  • 397 AD: Martyrdom of Saints Sisinius, Martyrius, and Alexander. This is the most significant event highlighted in the text.
  • Post-397 AD: Construction of the basilica dedicated to the martyred saints. The village name changed to San Sisinnio, eventually evolving to Sanzeno.
  • 1968: Aggregation of the municipalities of Banco and Casez into Sanzeno.[1]
