The town was founded as an urban area on January 29, 1599. However, the area was inhabited much earlier, as it is the successor to the colony of Kamarina, founded in 598 BC.

  • 553 BC: Kamarina rebelled against Siracusa.
  • 495 BC: Repopulated with coloni geloi under Ippocrate of Gela.
  • 485 BC: Destroyed by Gelone dei Deinomenidi.
  • 461 BC: The Polis regained autonomy and freedom.
  • 424 BC: Morgantina was assigned to Kamarina as a tributary.
  • 424 BC: Kamarina seems to have sided with Athens during the war between Athens and Syracuse.
  • 357 BC: Kamarina took part in the simmachia of Dione.
  • 338 BC: Restored by Timoleonte.
  • 280 BC: Sacked by the Mamertini.
  • 258 BC: Severely punished by the Romans with near-total destruction. [1]
