Sale Marasino's origins are Medieval, but the area was inhabited even earlier. Marasino, located on a hill, was inhabited in Roman times. Sale was crossed by a Roman consular road connecting Brescia and Val Camonica.

Jurisdictions:

  • In the Middle Ages, the Lake Iseo area was contested between Brescia and Bergamo.
  • Sale Marasino, known as Vallis Renovata in the 12th century, had its own ecclesiastical circumscription.

Major events:

  • Benedictine monks reclaimed the marshy coast, leading to Sale's development in the 16th century, during which many noble homes were built.
  • Costanzo Ferrari, a writer, journalist, and essayist, was born in Sale Marasino in the 19th century. He participated in the Risorgimento uprisings and later went into exile. The municipal library is dedicated to him.
  • Until the 19th century, key economic activities included charcoal production, wool processing, and olive cultivation.
  • Sale Marasino was a commercial port for peat from the lower Sebino peat bogs.
  • In the 19th and early 20th centuries, it became a wool center and saw the rise of spinning mills and silkworm breeding.[1]
