The area was inhabited in prehistoric times. Roman presence is documented. The name "Rovato" appears for the first time in 909 AD.
Jurisdictions:
- 909 AD: First written mention of Rovato.
- Medieval period: Under the control of the Counts Palatine of Coccaglio.
- 13th century: Became a free comune.
- 1428: Passed under the dominion of the Republic of Venice.
- Late 18th century: Part of the Cisalpine Republic.
- Early 19th century: Under Austrian rule (Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia).
- 1859: Annexed to the Kingdom of Sardinia (later the Kingdom of Italy).
Major events:
- 1191: Rovato was besieged and destroyed by the Brescians.
- 1266: The Ghibellines of Brescia took refuge in Rovato after their defeat.
- 1509: Rovato was sacked by the French during the War of the League of Cambrai.
- 1630: A severe plague epidemic struck Rovato.
- March 22, 1848: The "Dieci Giornate di Brescia" uprisings began in Rovato.[1]
