The Superior Court has divorce jurisdiction throughout Québec and sits in all judicial districts. It is made up of 143 judges. The Superior Court has exclusive competence in divorce matters. There are 56 court houses where the divorce records are located and the appropriate courthouse should be contacted for these records.
Divorces granted prior to 1975 are accessed manually while records after 1975 have been computerized. There is a photocopy service 514-393-2330 that has been set up to handle the requests for copies of the divorce proceedings. You must have the file number before you can take advantage of this service. You obtain the file number from either the local courthouse in the area that the divorce took place or from the Clerk’s Office of the Superior Court at 418-649-3501.
