The territory was inhabited since Prehistory. The Romans founded the town.

Major events:
- Battles in 69 during the Roman civil war.
- Construction of the Castello di Pontevico between the end of the 9th and the beginning of the 10th century due to the invasions of the Hungarians.
- The town hosted the army of the Lombard League in 1237.
- Assedio di Brescia of 1311.
- The Lega Antiviscontea took possession of the town in 1362.
- In 1426, the town was occupied by the Venetians.
- In 1452, Pontevico was brought back into Milanese hands.
- In 1453, the town was besieged and razed to the ground by French soldiers.
- In April 1509 the Venetian army gathered in Pontevico.
- Revolt organized by the people of Pontevico against the French occupiers (1510).
- Reconquest of the castle (1512).
- In 1803 the Castello was transformed into a foundry.
- In 1844 the Castello was razed to the ground.[1]
