Parish History

MIDDLEWICH (St. Michael and All Angels), is a market-town and parish, in the union of Northwich, and South division of the county of Chester; comprising the townships of Byley withYatehouse, Clive, Croxton, Kinderton with Hulme, Middlewich, Minshull-Vernon, Mooresbarrow with Parme, Newton, Occlestone, Ravenscroft, Sproston, Stublach, Sutton, Wimboldsley and part of Leese; and the township of Weever. There are places of worship for the Society of Friends, Independents and Wesleyans.[1]

There has been a settlement at Middlewich since at least the time of the Roman occupation. The parish church of St. Michael and All Angels dates back to the 12th century. Middlewich is a market town in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England.

Middlewich was a township in Middlewich Parish, Northwich Hundred, which became a civil parish in 1866. It was extended in 1894 to include parts of Kinderton cum Hulme and Newton (near Middlewich).
