Middlebury, Vermont at Wikipedia

Middlebury was chartered on November 2, 1761 and was settled just after the Revolutionary War. It is the Shire Town and largest community in Addison county with a population of approximately 8,500.

Middlebury is also home to the internationally recognized Middlebury College which was founded in 1800. Its original purpose was to train young men from Vermont and neighboring states for the ministry and other learned professions of the early 19th century. In 1883, it became one of the first formerly all-male schools in New England to admit women [1] [2]
