Town Information

Description

Maidstone, Vermont at Wikipedia

Maidstone was chartered on October 12, 1761. Despite Hamilton Child's enthusiastic comment in his 1887 Gazetter that "probably no town in the state has more valuable bottom lands [for farming] than Maidstone," the town never attracted many residents. Its top population was reached with just under 300 at the time of the Civil War, and the number has declined ever since. The population at the 2010 US Census was 208.

Many interesting aspects, such as first automobile, first lawsuit, first physician, etc., of Maidstone's history can be found in the 2007 Maidstone Town Plan. [1] [2]
