The area was inhabited as follows:
- First human settlements: 1800 years a.c.
- Lonato was donated to the monastery of San Martino di Tours: July 16, 774
- Berengario allowed the lonatesi to fortify the town: 909
- Lonato becomes property of the Gonzaga: 1412
- Gonzaga lost control and the power passed to the Serenissima Republic of Venice: 1440
- Lonato passes under the control of the French government: 1509
- Lonato becomes again a property of Venice: 1516
- Construction of the civic tower: 1555
- Franco-Piedmontese obtained victory and the town entered the Kingdom of Italy: June 1859
- The town assumed the denomination of Lonato del Garda: 2007
