The first modern census of Laos was taken in 1912 by the French administration. The next census was taken in 1943. Between the years of 1943 and 1985, no complete censuses were taken. In 1985, another census was completed and the second national decennial census was taken in 1995. The second one was believed to be more comprehensive than the one in 1985.[1]
