County Information

Description

Kern County was created 2 Apr 1866[1] and was named for the Kern River, which was named for Edward Kern, cartographer for General John C. Frémont's 1845 expedition.[2] Its county seat is Bakersfield. It is located in the south-central area of the state.[3]
