Norwegian settlements
Brief History[edit | edit source]
As early as 1857 small Norwegian communities were cropping up in Kansas, but not until after the Civil War did we see any significant numbers. Nels Ladd from Sogndal, Charles Christiansen from Østre Toten, and Mathias Johnson from Biri were the first Norwegian settlers in Kansas. They arrived from Dane County Wisconsin and settled first in Eureka and later in Greenwood County.
