Research use: Establish individual identity and residence. May sometimes establish family groups.
Record type: These are personnel files of Ottoman civil personnel and bureaucrats. The need to pay, promote, and give retirement benefits to large numbers of civil employees and soldiers obliged the government to keep detailed personnel records.
Time period: 1800-1915.
Contents: Names of soldiers and civil employees, age, birth date, birthplace, service information including promotions, dependents’ names and details about them.
Location: National Archives in Amman.
Population coverage: Less than 20%.
Reliability: Very good.[1]
