Huntsville is located in the beautiful Ogden Valleyof Weber County. The Native American population, made mostly of Little Soldier and other bands of Shoshone, have lived in the region since prehistory. The first Europeans in the area were early trappers.

The first permanent Europeans settlers arrived in the Fall of 1860. This group of seven families was led by Jefferson Hunt and founded a small settlement which they called "Hawkin’s Grove".[1] In 1861 more settlers moved into the valley, the town was formally laid out, and the name changed to Huntsville.

These early settlers were predominantly members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (or Mormons), and they included groups of Danish (coming from Denmark in 1864) and Scottish converts to the religion. David O. McKay, ninth president of the Church was born in Huntsville.

The City of Huntsville was incorporated in 1924 and the population was 608 at the time of the 2010 census.
