History
Genesee was discovered in 1872, the original town was located about a mile east of the present town. In 1888 the Spokane & Palouse Railway way was extended to Genesee. Jacob Rosenstrin owned the town site and was given an exorbitant price for right -of- way and grounds. The railway built its terminus a mile west of the village, so the town was forced to move to the present location. It became some of the most productive farming land in the county. The business boomed on Main Street and hay and grain warehouses sprang up along the tracks.
