County Information

Description

Fresno County (originally spelled Frezno) was created 19 Apr 1856[1] and was named for Fresno Creek. Fresno in Spanish means "ash tree", reflecting the abundance of mountain ash in the area. Fresno is the county seat. It is located in the central area of the state.[2]
