Instructions

1. Open the Task List, and add your name to the Name column for the parishes you want to sign up for.

2. Open the North Yorkshire, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1558-1812 collection on Ancestry.com.

  • You do not have to be signed in to Ancestry to work on this project.

3. Locate the right-hand side of the collection page in the box called "Browse this collection".

4. Then, click the dropdown for Parish, and check if the parish from the task list appears in the dropdown list of parishes.

  • a. If the parish does appear, put "Yes" in the In collection? column, and continue to step 5.
  • b. If the parish does not appear in the dropdown, put "No" in the In collection? and in the Added to wiki page? columns of the task list, and continue on to the next parish.

5. Go to the parish wiki page using the link in the "Parish" column of the Task List.

6. Go to the Church of England heading, and click "Edit source".

7. Look for a section of the table with the following code: | bgcolor="#ffffff" width="30%"| Ancestry-North Yorkshire ($).

  • If this section is not in the table already, continue to step 8.
  • If this section is in the table already, go to step 11.

8. Copy the following code:

| bgcolor="#ffffff" width="30%"| Ancestry-North Yorkshire ($)
| bgcolor="#E8E8E8"| <center>'''-'''</center>
| bgcolor="#E8E8E8"| <center>'''-'''</center>
| bgcolor="#ffffff" | <center>'''-'''</center>
| bgcolor="#ffffff" | <center>'''-'''</center>
| bgcolor="#E8E8E8" | <center>'''-'''</center>
| bgcolor="#E8E8E8"| <center>'''-'''</center>
|-

9. Locate the section of the parish table that says | bgcolor="#ffffff" width="30%"| Ancestry-England & Wales, Birth, Christening, Marriage and Death Indexes ($), and add one empty line above that section of the table (see the yellow line in the image below).

10. Paste the code from step 8 into the empty line you just created.

11. Locate the 1st, 3rd, and 5th cells of the table.

  • If there is already a collection listed in any of those three cells (as shown in the image below), continue to step 12.
  • If there isn't a collection already listed in any of those cells, skip to step 15.

12. Next, copy the following code:

13. Paste the code from step 12 directly before the link already in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th cells of the table, but after the <center> code. See below for an example of finished code (new code you pasted is shown in yellow below).

14. After completing step 13, skip to step 17.

15. Copy the following code:

[https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/62228/ 1500s-1800s]

16. In the 1st, 3rd, or 5th cell that don't have any collections listed, replace the instance(s) of '''-''' in that line with the code you copied in step 15.

  • If any of those cells already have a collection listed, refer to step 13 for instructions for where to paste the code.

17. Click "Show preview" and look at the table. The "1500s-1800s" collection should appear in each of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th cells, either on its own, or right below another collection. (See image below for an example)
