Purpose

  • Add closest ecclesiastical parish link to Church Records section

Task List

England Extra-Parochial Parish Project

Instructions

Step 1: Find Closest Ecclesiastical Parish

  1. Open the Task List and place your name next to the parish you want to edit (Column J). Click on the parish page link

  2. Open a new tab, keeping the original parish page open

  3. In the new tab, open the England Jurisdictions 1851 Map

  4. Enter the name of the extra-parochial parish you are working on and press the Search button

  5. A dialog box will appear over the map

  6. Press the Options button

  8. Choose Radius place search

  10. Press the Go button

  12. On the left side of the screen a list will be populated of all parishes within a 5 mile radius, sorted by the parish closest in proximity to the parish furthest away

  13. Choose the first parish on the list

Step 2: Add Ecclesiastical Parish to Wiki Page

  1. Open a third tab to the Wiki Main Page and search for the ecclesiastical parish just found

  2. Go back to the original parish page

  3. Click the edit source button next to the Church Records heading

  4. Delete everything between Church Records and Census Records

  5. Copy and paste the following code directly below the heading:

  6. [EXTRA-PAROCHIAL PARISH NAME] is an '''extra parochial area''' and the closest ecclesiastical parish is [[ECCLESIASTICAL PARISH PAGE NAME|ECCLESIASTICAL PARISH NAME]].
    *''Extra-parochial'' areas were not attached to parish churches. 
    *The residents went to a church of their choosing outside of the parish boundaries.<br>
    

  7. Replace the capitalized words by copying the name of the current parish, the ecclesiastical parish page name and the name of that parish. The images below show what to copy and where to paste them:

  9. The code will then look like this:

  10. Beaumont Chase is an '''extra parochial area''' and the closest ecclesiastical parish is [[Wardley, Rutland Genealogy|Wardley]].
    *''Extra-parochial'' areas were not attached to parish churches. 
    *The residents went to a church of their choosing outside of the parish boundaries.<br>
    

  11. Type: Project: Add ecclesiastical parish in the summary box

  12. Save the page

  13. The updated page will look like this

  15. On the Task List type Done in Step 1 (Column K)

  16. Type Done in Step 2 (Column L)
