Rename U.S. Town Pages
Purpose[edit | edit source]
United States Town wiki pages were incorrectly named. We need to add the word "Genealogy" to the end of each article name.
Task List[edit | edit source]
Instructions[edit | edit source]
1. Go to the Task List and sign out a county in one of the states listed.
2. Use the link in the Task List to get to the County page and copy the name of the county including the word, County.
3. Scroll down to the list of towns and click on the first town.
4. On the town page, hover over, More next to the Search box in the top right hand corner.
5. Choose "Move" in the drop down menu.
6. The system automatically adds the current title of the wiki page into New Title field. Do the following things:
- FIRST: Paste in the County name (and the word, County) after the name of the town and before the state with the appropriate commas.
- SECOND: Add the word, Genealogy to the end of the wiki article title. Make sure the word is capitalized.
- NOTE: If the word, Genealogy is already at the end of the article name, only add the county to the title.
- FIRST: Paste in the County name (and the word, County) after the name of the town and before the state with the appropriate commas.
EXAMPLE of new title: Durham, Androscoggin County, Maine Genealogy
7. In the Reason: field type in, "incorrectly titled"
8. Once the page is correctly titled and the reason filled in, click on the blue button, Move Page.
9. Once you have moved the page, go on to the next town to rename from the County wiki page.
