Task List[edit | edit source]

New England Town Pages, Part 21 Task List

Instructions[edit | edit source]

  1. Open the task list and go to Part 21.

  2. Place your name next to the town that you are going to edit.

  3. Go to the town page.

  4. Click on the Edit Source button on the top of the page.

  5. Go to FamilySearch Catalog

  6. Search for the town in the Place field. It should come up in reverse order. For instance if I were editing Darien it would show up as United States, Connecticut, Fairfield, Darien.

  7. Look for Land and Property. Additionally, look at the county level in the catalog for Land and Property'. There should be a link to the county level at the top of the page. If there is not a land and property section on either page, skip to step 12.

  8. Click on the first link below the header.

  9. For this part of the project you need to make sure that you are signed in to FamilySearch. Look at the format of the records. If they have a camera with a key over it or a microfilm roll, we will not link to it and you can move on to the next record if there are more records in that section, or if there are no other records in the Land and Property section, you can skip to step 12.

  10. If there is a camera icon, we will want to add it to the town page. We use the following template when linking to the catalog:

    *'''YEAR 1-YEAR 2''' {{FSC|NUMBER|title-id|disp=RECORD TITLE}} at FamilySearch Catalog — images

The year range is often found in the title of the record. The number is a little trickier. It is found in the url after catalog/ and before ?availability. Copy this and add it to the template.

  11. For instance, if I was doing this for the town of Darien, my template would look like the following:

    *'''1765-1873''' {{FSC|467586|title-id|disp=Town records, 1765-1873}} at FamilySearch Catalog — images

  12. Add the template to the Land Records section on the town page. It should go below The following are online land records for the town of Town:

  13. Continue the steps above for any available land records for the town. Once you have finished adding them all, paste the following code in the land records sections:

  14. *'''1835-1838''' {{RecordSearch|1881491|Maine Revolutionary War Bounty Land Applications, 1835-1838}} at FamilySearch — [[Maine Revolutionary War Bounty Land Applications - FamilySearch Historical Records|How to use this collection]], index & images

  15. Additionally, for towns in Aroostook County, add the following code:

  16. *'''1865-1900''' {{RecordSearch|1447693|Maine, Aroostook County Deed Books, 1865-1900}} at FamilySearch - [[Maine, Aroostook County Deed Books - FamilySearch Historical Records|How to use this collection]], images
