Purpose of this Project[edit | edit source]

The purpose of this project is to standardize the Connecticut town pages so that they conform to the predetermined template for New England.

New England Town Pages, Part 1

Instruction[edit | edit source]

  1. Open up the tasklist and place your name by the town page that you would like to work on.

  2. Click on the link to the town page on the task list.

  3. When you get to the town page, you will see one of the following:
    • A stub, which will only consist of headings and will look like this:

    If you have a stub, go to steps 4-12

    • A page that has some information on it. These will all look different; the important thing to note is that they have something besides just headings on their pages. Here is an example:

    If you have a page with information, go to steps 13-22

  5. Copy the following code:

  6. Click on the "Edit Source" button at the right-hand corner of the page.

  7. Highlight the code on the page stopping after {{reflist}}. This step should look like this:

  8. Paste the code that you copied.

  9. Replace any instances of TOWN in capital letters with the name of the town that you are editing. There should be 7 instances of this; you can also use "CTRL+F" to find them.

  10. Replace any instances of COUNTY in capital letters with the name of the county that contains your town. The county can be found on the task list under the "Counties" column. There should be 2 instances of this; you can also use "CTRL+F" to find them.

  11. Click on the "Show Preview" button to make sure that you did not make any errors. If everything looks good, move on. If there is a mistake, fix it before moving on.

  12. Type the following into the summary box:

  13. Save the page and place the date that you edited the page on the task list to mark it finished.

  16. Click on the "Edit Source" button at the right-hand corner of the page.

  17. Paste it at the beginning of the code for the page, leaving the original code as is. It should look like this:

  18. Replace any instances of TOWN in capital letters with the name of the town that you are editing. There should be 6 instances of this; you can also use "CTRL+F" to find them.

  19. Click on the "Show Preview" button to make sure that you did not make any errors. If everything looks good, move on. If there is a mistake, fix it before moving on.

  20. Type the following into the summary box:

  21. Save the page and make it clear in the "Notes" column of the spreadsheet that the page already had information on it.

  22. Place the date that you edited the page on the task list to mark it finished.
