FamilySearch Wiki:WikiProject New England Headers Part One

Purpose

To add new headers to New England Town pages, and adding the Wikipedia Town page link if there is not one

Project Instructions

The purpose of this project is to rename the Brief History header to Town Information and Description, and to add the Wikipedia Town page link

Initial Instructions

Choose a State Task List to work in and put your name by the Towns you have chosen
Bethel, Fairfield, Connecticut was chosen for images and instructions

Part One

Renaming the Brief History header to Town Information and Description

Step One

Go to your State Task list and click to open the Town you want to work in

This is what the Town page will look like with the Brief History in the Contents box

Find Brief History in the Contents box and click the link

This will take you to the Brief History header section

In the Brief History header section, click on Edit Source and copy, paste, and replace the Brief History header with these Wiki Text code headers below

Step Two

If there is no Brief History section, then click on Edit Source at the top of the page

Add these Wiki Text code headers right underneath the breadcrumb section

These new headers will go to the top of the Contents box once saved

Step Three

In Summary add:

Project Update Headers and Add Wikipedia Link

Click on Save
Go on to Part Two

Part Two

To add the Wikipedia Town Link

If there is other information or links leave them there, but put the Wikipedia link at the top right under the Descriptions section
Here is an example of where the Wikipedia Link should be
Brief History should already be changed by this time to Town Information and Description

Step One

If there already is a Wikipedia link, underneath the new headers, click on it to make sure it goes to the right Town page
Make sure the link in edit source is the same as the Wiki Text code below

[URL WIKIPEDIA PAGE NAME] at Wikipedia

Then...

In Summary add:

Project Update Headers and Add Wikipedia Link

Click on Save
Start over in Part One and choose the next Town to update

If there is no Wikipedia link go on to Step Two

Step Two

If there is no Wikipedia link click into this main page below

Wikipedia Main Page

Next copy the place name from the Town page and paste it into the Search Wikipedia box on the right top corner of the Wikipedia page

This is the Bethel, Connecticut Wikipedia page

Step Three

Adding the Wikipedia link

In the Description section click on Edit Source and copy and paste this WikiText below Description

[URL WIKIPEDIA PAGE NAME] at Wikipedia

Copy the URL from the Wikipedia page and paste where the URL is in the WikiText

Next copy the name of the Wikipedia page and paste it in where the WIKIPEDIA PAGE NAME is
Remember to have a space between the URL and the page name

Step Four

Images of what the changes look will like when finished

This image is the completed Wikipedia link in edit source

This image is the Preview page before saving your work

This image is what it looks like in the new headers section after saving your work

This image is what your work will look like with the new header section and Contents box

In Summary add:

Project Update Headers and Add Wikipedia Link

Click on Save

This Town in now finished. Put the date by your name and Town you worked in
You can now start over at Part One with a new Town
