1. Go to the Fixing Maine County Maps Task List and signup for a map template you wish to work on. NOTE: Google Chrome currently contains a bug that blanks out pages being edited making it impossible to edit the page. Use Mozilla Firefox browser instead.
2. On the task list wiki page, click on the map template you signed up for.
3. Once you are on the map template page, you are now going to replace some misspelled words on this template. It is impossible to know what words will be on each map as surrounding counties and their towns are listed in some maps. You will have to try each word to see if they are in the template. The incorrect and correct spellings are found in this table. You will fix 5 town names on each map template.
| Misspelled words | |
|---|---|
| Incorrect Word | Correct Word |
| East Millnocket | East Millinocket |
| Gardner | Gardiner |
| Millnocket | Millinocket |
| Personfield | Parsonsfield |
| West Gardner | West Gardiner |
| Summer | Sumner |
4. To find the first word, do a Ctrl-F so you can find the word on the page.
5. The first word you will correct the spelling for is East Millnocket. The correct spelling is East Millinocket. Type in the incorrect spelling, East Millnocket in the "Find" field in the bottom left corner of the page.
6. Once you find it on the page, correct the spelling by adding an “I” to the correct spot on the page. The correct spelling is found in the chart in Step 3. If you cannot find the incorrectly spelled word on the page, just skip and go to the next town.
7. Each town is repeated immediately after the first time it appears on the page. Be sure to correct both spellings of the town name.
8. Repeat Steps 4 through 6 for each word found in the chart in Step 3.
9. Once you have corrected both versions of each town and all 5 towns, go to the Edit Summary field at the bottom of the page, and type in: “Fixed town names” and save the page.
10. Go back to the Task List put the date you completed the map template and select another Map template to correct.
