Project Instructions

Part 1: Make Sure You Have the Correct County

Step 1: Go to the task list and sign up for a center. If there is more than one center in a county, you may want to sign up for several.

Step 2: Find the county the center is located in in the Wiki by typing in the county name and state, Utah County, Utah Genealogy.

Step 3: Check the name of the town the FamilySearch center is in and find it on the list of populated places to make sure you're adding the FamilySearch center to the right county page. If found, go to part 2. If not found, continue to step 4.

Step 4: If the town the FamilySearch center is in is not found on the county page, search for the town using Wikipedia to find the correct county.

Example: Sandy, Utah


Step 5: If the town the FamilySearch center is in is not found in Wikipedia, search for the FamilySearch center page in the wiki. Go to Zip-Codes.com. Enter in the zip code from the address in the free zip code finder to on the left. Enter the correct county on the task list and go to that county's page.

Part 2: Adding or Updating the FamilySearch Center on the County Page

Step 1: Find the the FamilySearch Centers header. This is where you will link to the FamilySearch center page.

Step 2: If the center is already listed there, make sure it links to the Wiki page for the FamilySearch center and delete any other information about the FamilySearch center, like address or phone number.

Step 3: If it is not on the page, copy and paste the code under the words "Local Centers and Libraries": 

*[[NAME OF FAMILY HISTORY CENTER]]<br>

Step 4: Copy and paste the name of the center in between the double brackets to replace NAME OF FAMILY HISTORY CENTER.

Example: 
 [[Tirana Albania FamilySearch Center]]<br>

Step 5: Type "Adding/Updating FamilySearch center info" in the summary.

Step 6: Click save changes.

Step 7: Go to the next FamilySearch center on the task list.

  • For counties with more than one FamilySearch center, put the FamilySearch centers in alphabetical order.
