Purpose[edit | edit source]
The purpose of this project is to create FamilySearch Wiki pages for new FamilySearch Centers from Juny 2015 to July 2016.
Project Contact[edit | edit source]
Task List[edit | edit source]
Project Instructions[edit | edit source]
Part 1 - Creating the FHC page[edit | edit source]
The FHC has already been created for you. Go to Part 2 below for more instructions.
Part 2 - Adding content[edit | edit source]
The purpose of Part 2 is to add contact information to the new FHC page.
- If no contact information is listed on the FHC Map, you have finished the task. Go back to the task list and put the date you completed the task and add to Column H what information is missing, such as "phone number" or "all info."
- If the address and contact information is on the FHC Map, complete the rest of the Part 2 below.
1. Go to the Task List and sign up for FamilySearch Center (FHC) that needs info added to it.
2. Find the FamilySearch Center on the FHC FamilySearch map by visiting Find local help link. Type (or copy and paste) in the name of the FHC you signed up for.
3. A green Family Tree logo should show up on the map representing the FHC. Click on this icon to see the official name and copy it.
4. Open wiki.familysearch.org in a new tab. Once on the main page of the Wiki, paste the name of the FHC in the search field and click enter.
5. Open the FamilySearch center wiki page in wikitext by clicking on Edit Source in the top right corner of the page.
6. Add the Language: Add the language the FHC should be speaking. If it's in the US, assume it is English - unless the map states otherwise. Make sure the language is NOT bolded. In Wikitext, bolding is done by adding 3 apostrophes next to each other before and after the word you wish bolded. See the example below. If at any time you do not know the language that should be spoken at the FHC, leave it blank and go to the task page and on column H write, "need language."
- Wikitext example:
- *'''Language:''' English
7. Add Address: Going back to the FHC map listing the FHC name and contact information, copy the address of the FHC. Paste the address behind the bullet in one continuous line replacing the phrase, "(Include information about your center that would be helpful for first time visitors such as which entrance in the building to use, parking, etc. Use as many or as few bullet points as needed.)" with the address. Make any adjustments with the address to change any words in all upper case to lower case with the appropriate capitalization and punctuation. Also make sure the address is not italicized by taking out any apostrophes still on the line. See the example below.
- Wikitext example: * 155 Highway 95 Alternate, Fernley, NV 89048 United States
8. Google Map Link: Create a Google map link to be placed after the word, "Location." Use the following steps:
- a. Open another window in your browser and go to Google maps http://maps.google.com and enter the address of the FHC into the search box on the upper left side of the page.
- b. Once you enter the address, a new URL will appear in the URL field. Copy this URL.
- c. Go back to your FHC page and in the address section, beside the asterisk under "Location Map" address, you will hyperlink to the link you just created on the Google maps page. To create the link in wikitext, add an additional asterisk so there are two listed. Then add a left square bracket left of the asterisk and then paste the url link left of the bracket. After the url link, put a space and type in "Google Map" and then add a right square bracket. Make sure the Google Map link is not bold or italicized by taking any apostrophes left on the line. See example below.
- Wikitext example: for a Google Map hyperlink:
- **[https://www.google.com/maps/place/155+US-95+ALT,+Fernley,+NV+89408/@39.606638,-119.2504143,18z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x8098dd5f562029f1:0xcefe70b1f8bdbdab?hl=en Google Map]
9. Add Phone Number: Going back to the FHC map listing the FHC name and contact information, copy the complete phone number including country code (if listed) of the FHC. Add the phone number behind the bullet and take out any apostrophes that are left on the line. See example below. If there is no phone number listed, go back to the Task List and add in column H, "missing phone number. Then go to the next step.
- Wikitext example:
- *1-775-575-7712
10. Email Address: Email information is not listed in the contact info on the FHC map. Skip this section.
11. Add Hours: Going back to the FHC map listing the FHC name and contact information, copy the hours that are listed. If you have closed your tab, go back to Part 1, number 2. Add the hours replacing the "(List hours here.)" text by putting two asterisks in front of each day listed with hours. (If there is no phone number listed, go back to the Task List and add in column H, "missing hours. Then go to the next step.)
- Wikitext example:
- **Tuesday:7:00pm-9:00pm
- **Wednesday:7:00pm-9:00pm
- **Thursday:7:00pm-9:00pm
12. Holiday hours: Add this if it's listed using the instructions in number 6 above.
13. Check Your Work!!! You have finished the task. Add in the Summary field at the bottom of the page, "Added contact info." Once you have saved the page, click on your location map link. If it doesn't work, go back and try number 8 again. Make sure the rest of the information looks correct and make any necessary adjustments.
14. Go back to the task list: Return to the Task List and put in the date you finished the FHC page. You are done with the task! You can now choose another FamilySearch center to add content to.
