After you approved the image, the images will appear: Category:Image Uploads

Review the Image[edit | edit source]

The following are guidelines for approving file/images:

  • People. If there are people in the picture, make sure their faces cannot be seen. If they can be seen, review the Summary to see if the submitter has obtained permission to publish from the individuals in the picture.
  • Stock image. If it appears that the image is a stock image from another website such as, Shutterstock, do not approve the image and instead contact Danielle. If the submitter says the image/file is from Church (Gospel) Media Library, change the license wikitext code to: {{Gospel Media Library License}}
  • Icon. If the icon was not created by the submitter, make sure the license is a Creative Commons license. If it does not appear to be under Creative Commons license, contact Danielle
  • Document. If they are submitting a document, determine the intention. It may be a patron who thinks they are submitting to Memories in Family Tree. If it is for a FSC, ask the submitter where they got the image if they did not clarify in the description. If the document is from a FamilySearch collection online, change the license wikitext code to: {{FSC Images Limited License}}. If it is from another website, tell the submitter that we cannot upload it because it is under Copyright and suggest they find an image on FamilySearch.

Add a Category[edit | edit source]

  • FHC Category. If it is an image of a center or some other image for a FSC, make sure it has a FSC category. For example, if it's for a FamilySearch center in Boise, Idaho, the category should be: [[Category:Idaho FamilySearch Centers]]
Note: Centers in British Isles or other countries associated with/a former colony of England should use the British spelling. For example: Australia FamilySearch Centres.
  • Other Categories. If the image is regarding a locality or record type, use the category best to suit the situation. For example, if it's a handout about the United States Census, the category: United States Census should be used. If the category of the joint locality (United States) and record type (census) does not exist, instead use two seperate categories: Category:United States and Category:Census. To know what categories are available refer to other related Wiki pages for guidance. For this example, go to the Wiki page: United States Census.
  • Questions. Categories in the English Wiki are a huge, complicated mess of over 10,000 categories. Contact Danielle if you feel as though you are not sure what to do. We'll figure it out together.
  • HOW TO ADD THE CATEGORY. To add the category to the file Wiki page, use Edit Source and use the double brackets around the category and put it at the bottom of the file Wiki page.

Review the License[edit | edit source]

  • Creative Commons. Some users do not understand that an image cannot be uploaded unless it was taken by them and released to Creative Commons license or in the Public Domain. If they obtained the image from a website and gave the URL, go to the website to see if you can find a copyright on the page. If there is any question as to what the copyright is, contact Danielle.
